The 88th Academy Award

Presiden AMPAS (Academy Motion Picture Art and science) Cheryl Boone Isaacs didampingi actor John Krasinski mengumumkan nominasi The 88^th Academy Award pada Januari 2016. Pembacaan daftar nominasi juga dibantu oleh 2 sutradara besar, Guillermo del toro dan Ang lee.

The Revenant mendominasi perolehan nominasi dengan merebut 12 nominasi, disusul oleh Mad Max; Fury Road yang secara mengejutkan berhasil meraih 10 nominasi. Nominasi yang diraih The artist lebih merata di kategori utama, acting & teknik, sementara Hugo minus di nominasi acting. Berikut daftar nominasi Oscar :

The revenant jadi unggulan terkuat untuk menyabet gelar ini, tetapi tak sedikit yang menilai dia belum cukup pantas disebut film terbaik. Mark Rylance jadi kandidat kedua untuk memenangi kategori ini, akan tetapi jika Spotlight diplot menang film terbaik, maka Oscar untuk Mark ruffalo akan melengkapi kemenangan Spotlight.
